Since 1998, Internews Europe Rwanda has been facilitating the healing of Rwandans and their society from the 1994 Genocide and has been helping to face such crucial challenges as ending poverty and sensitizing the public to various issues. By training local journalists and producing documentary films, as well as screening them in rural and urban areas, we make information and communication more accessible to the entire population, hence strengthening the civil society. Since 2008 Internews Europe Rwanda has even initiated the facilitation of an exchange between Rwandan and Congolese journalists, thus creating and improving cross-border communication and intercultural understanding of the journalists and the people they reach through their media. Our actual project focuses on the process of demobilization of Rwandan rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). By informing people in the Rwanda/DRC border region about the reconciliation process and the reintegration of ex-combatants of FDLR (Forces Démocratiques de Libération du Rwanda) into society, we try to reach out to those still fighting in Eastern DRC and motivate them to come home.
